Star Wars was created by George Lucas and his company Lucasfilm Ltd LLC. It all started in 1977 with Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope. It was followed by Episode V The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Episode VI Return of the Jedi (1983). These three movies were all box office hits and soon became some of the most populat movies ever. In spite if this it took 16 years before any more movies were made. Episode 4-6 would from here on be known as the Original Trilogy. 1999, 2002 and 2005 came Episode 1-3, a prequel trilogy telling the story of what led up to the 1977 movie A New Hope.
In 2012 Lucasfilm was bought by Disney. Disney decided to increase the production of Star Wars films. From now on the fans would get a lot more Star Wars than under the leadership of George Lucas. A sequel trilogy was announced. The story of these movies would take place after the original trilogy. These are Episode VII The Force Awakens (2015), Episode VIII The Last Jedi (2017) and Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker (2019). There have also been two free standing movies conecting the adventures of earlier films; Rogue One – A Star Wars Story (2016) and Solo – A Star Wars Story (2018).
