Scarface from 1983 is not just one of the really big must-see gangster movies, it is one of the must-see movies. It is a remake of the 1932 film with the same name. The original is good, but this is one of the rare occations where the remake is even better.
Brian De Palma directs and Oliver Stone stands for the script. The Film is about Tony Montana, a Cuban in exile that has fled from Castro’s communists. Tony arrives in Florida and after a short period of honset work he comes to the conclusion that things go to slow. The good life is on display everywhere you look. Tony and his friends do not have the patience to make a good life slowly, legaly.
Al Pacino plays Tony Montana, or as a good friend of mine put it: “Al Pacino is Tony Montana in this movie.” We also see fantastic performances from Michelle Pfeiffer, Steven Bauer, Robert Loggia, F Murray Abraham and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio among others.
