The Ghostbusters franchaise was kickstarted in 1984 with the movie by the same name, directed by Ivan Reitman and written by Dan Aykroyd & Harold Ramis. In New York there are more and more incidents where there are ghosts involved. The main characters Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Raymond Stanz (Dan Aykroyd) and Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) together start the Ghostbusters company. The business have a slow start but as more and more ghosts come to the city the need for Ghostbusters grows.
The movie also stars Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis in major roles and Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts and William Atherton in supporting roles. Ghostbusters immediately became a pop cultural fenomenon upon its premiere in the summer of 1984, but it would take another five years before we got the sequel in Ghostbusters 2 (1989). Since then there have been rumors of another sequel and we are still hoping…
Apart from the two movies we have got an animted TV series called The Real Ghostbusters (1986-1991) and another series by the name Extreme Ghostbusters (1997). In 2016 there was also a reboot feature film. There have been lots of video games. I the 80s and beginning of the 90s these came out for all major game consoles such as Atari 2600 VCS, Nintendo NES 8-Bit, Sega Master System and Mega Drive (Genesis). Ghostbusters are still popular to this day and because of this we still have board games, clothing, books, food, toys and collectibles with them.
