The first Star Trek TV series was simply called Star Trek, but is today know as The Original Series. It premiered in 1966 and centers around the crew of spaceship USS Enterprise led by Captain James T Kirk (William Shattner). USS Enterprise is sent out by United Federation of Planets to explore space. It all takes place in the 23^rd century. To The Original Series we also count an animated series, five spin-offs for TV and the six numbered feature films.

Star Trek The Next Generation (1987-1994) is the next big TV series that came after the first one. It takes place a century later, also on a ship called Enterprise. The crew of the ship is all new and they are led by Captain Jean-Luc Picard played by Patrick Stewart. Four feature films have also been made for The Next Generation.

There have also been even more series for TV. Star Trek Deep Space Nine and Star Trek Voyager takes place at the same time as The Next Generation. The series just called Enterprise takes place before the Original Series in the early days of human space exploration.

In later years we have got the TV series Star Trek Discovery and a number of reboot feature films such as Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) and Star Trek Beyond (2016).
